This week, Stacy and I are so excited to be able to revisit one of our favorite prior episodes of The Whole View and provide an update on the science with some brand-new studies! We first time warped back to episode 381, where we dove deep into the science showing BIG health benefits to regularly eating breakfast (another argument against intermittent fasting), including benefits to inflammation and metabolism. We then expanded the discussion to science showing that skipping breakfast actually increases cortisol whereas eating breakfast helps to regulate the stress axis, reduce cortisol, and improve mental health! We then discussed an exciting new study that showed that an early breakfast is better. This new study compared the impact to glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity of different feeding window times, with subgroups based on whether participants ate their first meal before or after 8:30am. Super cool, the study showed that the length of the feeding window didn’t actually matter, but that eating breakfast before 8:30am reduced insulin resistance! We wrap up this revisit episode with some tips for other people like both of us who don’t find it easy to eat first thing in the morning.
