On this episode of The Whole View Podcast, Stacy and I dive into the very relevant and important topic of self care. While the words self care are very prevalent in cultural vernacular, what actually is self care and how can you practically make time for it? Stacy and I have talked about the different kinds of self care in many previous episodes, but what can this actually look like in an every day routine? Stacy notes that while we all have our natural tendencies to lean into one or two categories of self care, making a conscious effort to try additional strategies and self care acts can improve the results. Also understanding that pedicures and facials aside, self care might look as simple as allowing yourself to get adequate sleep every night, simply walking your dog, or reading a book.
Stacy outlines the various categories of self care: mind/emotional, physical body, recovery (sleep), relationships with others, building a good support system, and communication with others. I personally, integrate my self care into habitual practices which are needed daily to keep my bucket filled. I walk daily with my dog in the mornings, unplugged from technology. When we do the sporadic bigger acts such as family camping trips, I make sure to disconnect from technology so that the temptation is not even there. This podcast is truly a conversation to help inspire you to take some time for self-reflection and uncover what your self care needs are, and how to find ways to integrate them into your life.
