This week on The Whole View, Stacy and I answer listener Sara’s question about how to navigate a very common experience: when stress causes a flare that requires antibiotics (or other medications) to treat. How can we break the stress-flare cycle when gut health is so important to healing but long courses of antibiotics wipe out our gut microbiome?
First and foremost, Stacy and I share our philosophy on combining healthy diet and lifestyle with conventional medicine when needed! Medication is not failure and it doesn’t mean you didn’t “AIP hard enough.” We shared our own experiences with stress-induced flares and pointed to some resources for stress management. And finally, we dove deep on the role that probiotics can play in maintaining gut microbiome architecture during antibiotics, including which strains are best, how much to take, how long, and what to prioritize for gut health on the other side.
