White wine is produced from the alcoholic fermentations of non-colored pulp of grapes (mostly green/yellow grapes, but white wine can be made from purple grapes as well!). This type of wine is made up of a variety of varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Riesling; all of the variety types are named after the location from which they were originally produced. Dry white wine is the product of a complete fermentation, whereas sweet varieties are removed from the fermentation process before all of the grape sugar has been used up in the fermentation. When used in cooking, the alcohol in white wine is boiled off and leaves a uniquely sharp and refreshing flavor that is delightful.
When buying wine, it’s best to get organic if available and affordable (since wine grapes are treated heavily with pesticides). Good quality white wine that would be suitable for cooking is available at Amazon.
